MeitY online gaming rules and the PROG Act 2025
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued the Online Gaming Rules in 2023 to create a self-regulatory framework for "online real money games". The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025 (PROG Act) frames the federal position more broadly, including prohibition of certain harmful formats and a verification regime for permissible formats.
